Mag's 5 Star Review:
Haven has spent her entire life as a slave. Her mother was a slave and all she knew were the vast deserts of California, the beatings for being wrong or disrespectful, and the worn out mattress in the horse stable she slept on. Carmine DeMarco is a spoiled privileged prince of the mafia. He is careless and only thinks of himself. After Carmine’s father Vincent buys Haven, she is thrust upon a world vastly different than any other she has ever known. Unbeknown to anyone, Haven is holding a very extreme very dark secret that she doesn’t even know about.
This book was so different that any others I have ever read. The basic principal of human slaves has been done before, but the Mafia theme is something completely new to me. The author knew her stuff and created a world I didn’t want to leave. This book was very long, but oh so wonderful! I loved seeing the transformation of Haven and Carmine over the book and Carmine made me swoon with his delicious Italian words!
“Ti amo, mia bella ragazza. Per sempre." "Sempre?" She asked. Cracking a smile, he brushed his finger softly across her lips. "Always and forever”
“Sogni dóro, mia bella ragazza,” he mumbled, closing his eyes. "Sweet dreams my beautiful girl.”
It was beautiful to see the relationship between Carmine and Haven grow over the book. Carmine never had to work a day in his life, but was still able to connect with Haven. This book was an epic story of love, hard ache, and action that will have you gripping your kindle and not wanting to put it down. The twists and turns in this book are incredible!! They happen throughout the entire book and not just at the ending. I am beyond excited to read the next installment of this series!!
