He first began publishing under the name, Kane Caldwell, but has since changed the name he will continue publishing under. He is the epitome of a country boy with jeans, t-shirt, hat (No, not a cowboy hat. Lol), scruffy face, work boots on, driving his truck and definitely not a guy you'd picture writing romance. Anthony works in the construction business where he runs his own crew. He has two awesome boys, and an amazing woman that keeps him on the edge. He drinks way too much coffee and probably curses in one day what others curse in their lifetime. Lol! Anthony resides in the south where the weather is warm but most times sweltering hot. During down time, he loves to be surrounded by family, friends, great food, or engrossed in a good book. And of course, putting his imagination to work, where reality and fantasy collide.

Wes
The next morning, I walked into Connorâs office without knocking first. âWhat can you tell me about a Philip Stevenson? Heâs a lawyer at Long and Fairbrother.â
âAny reason why youâre asking?â
âA friend of mine might be doing some business with him, and I want to make sure thereâs nothing sketchy about him.â
All right, that wasnât exactly the truth, but it was close enough. Business. Date. They were pretty much kissing cousins on the grand scale of things, especially where Hannah was concerned.
I knew Hannahâs dating life wasnât any of my business. It was her choice if she wanted to date some loserâas long as said loser wasnât also a big creep.
Which was why I was in Connorâs office. As Hannahâs new roommate, it was my duty to ensure things were on the up-and-up with this Philip guy.
âGive me three hours, and Iâll see what I can find,â Conner said.
âGreat. Thanks. I owe you one.â
âYou owe him what?â Jayden asked, strolling into the office. He handed Connor a short stack of files. âI need a level-four background check on these five guys.â
âIâm right on it.â
âGreat. So letâs return to what Wes owes youâ¦â He looked between us, expectantly.
âHave you considered the possibility that it has nothing to do with you?â I inwardly groaned. That was the worst thing I could have said to Jayden. It only spiked his curiosity.
âI haveâfor maybe one second. Two, tops. So spill it. Whatâs going on here?â
âWes needed to run a check on some lawyer,â Connor told him.
âWhy does Wes need you to do that?â Liamâs voice came from the doorway behind me.
I twisted away from the desk. âWhy is everyone suddenly curious about what Iâm doing?â
Jayden smirked. âBecause we know whatever youâre up to is bound to be entertaining.â
Connor adopted an identical expression. âHeâs got a point there.â
âLooks like weâre all in agreement.â Liam crossed his arms, demonstrating the bad-guy-beware stance he had perfected while with the SEALs.
âAll right, if you really must know. A stranger asked Hannah out on a date, and I want to make sure sheâs not going out with someone whoâs bad news.â
âAre we talking about Hannah Morrell? The woman whoâs one step away from getting her black belt, the woman who knows how to look after herself?â
The smirks on Connorâs and Jaydenâs faces grew wider.
âThat would be the one. Normally I would agree that she knows how to take care of herself. But sheâs pregnant now, so I donât think itâs a bad idea to ensure that she isnât in over her head.â
All three men exchanged looks.
Shit.
âAnd for the record, you didnât hear about the pregnant part from me. Sheâs going to tell everyoneââI looked pointedly at Liamââincluding your fiancée, when sheâs ready.â
Did you hear that? That was the sound of a pin dropping against Connorâs desk. That was how quiet the room was after my little announcement.
Liam was the first to get over his shock. âHannah is pregnant?â
âI donât suppose youâre the father?â That would be Jayden.
âWhy would you even think that?â
âBecause everyone knows you used to have a thing for her.â Jayden might have said it, but his tone implied I still had a thing for her.
âI didnât have a thing for her, and I still donât.â Right, just be happy that lightning canât hit you inside a building, dumbass, an annoying voice in my head said. âAnd no, Iâm not the father.â
âDo you know who the father is?â Liam asked. âConnor can do a background check on him. Just to be sure she wonât be dealing with some major headaches down the line.â
âIs that the guy you want me to do the check on?â Connor asked. âIs he the father?â
I shook my head, even though I had no idea if Philip the lawyer made a recent deposit at the sperm bank. Even if he had, chances were slim that Hannah ended up with his sperm. âNo. Heâs just a stranger she met in a store yesterday, and he asked her out on a date.â
âOkay, Connor, do the background check on Hannahâs date first. And then report back to us.â
âUs?â I asked.
âYes, us. We want to know what weâre dealing with. We all like Hannah, and sheâs my fiancéeâs friend. If Ava even suspects I havenât done my due diligence when it comes to Hannahâs dating life, I could end up losing my balls. And Iâve grown quite attached to them, no pun intended.â
I almost felt sorry for Hannahâs idiot date if Connor did turn up dirt on him. If the guysâ expressions were anything to go by, heâd be canceling soon after.
But none of this surprised me. The team had already dealt with the individual who had been fast on the draw when it came to towing Hannahâs vehicle. Connor had found dirt on him, and Jayden and Liam had a little chat with the douchebag to make sure he demonstrated restraint in the future.
âIs he picking her up for the date, or is she meeting him somewhere?â Jayden asked.
âShe said sheâs meeting him at Swizzle Sticks Lounge.â It was some fancy-ass place Iâd taken a couple of dates to in the past.
âTime?â
âThat part didnât come up in our conversation yesterday.â I was lucky I even found out his name and where they were meeting up.
And that was only because she wasnât expecting me to crash the date.
âNot a problem,â Liam said. âWe can set up a detail to follow her from Travisâs building.â
âWhat exactly are you guys planning to do?â
âQuite simple. Jayden and Isabelle will show up at the meeting and make sure everything goes smoothly.â
My gaze shifted to Jayden. âYou mean you two will be pretending to be on a date?â
âMore like two colleagues going out after work to discuss work-related matters.â
Plausible? Quite possibly. âThereâs only one problem with that plan,â I said, stalling on revealing the next part. âHannah isnât staying with Travis and Emma anymore.â
Liamâs eyebrows raised in either surprise or disbelief. âSheâs already found a new apartment?â
âNot exactly. Sheâs moving into my condo this afternoon.â
Whatever emotion Liam had experienced with my first revelation had just done an unexpected U-turn. It was now fully in the disbelief zone.

The second I saw the sexy as fuck blonde in the green dress, everything shifted. When our eyes met, I was poleaxed. An intensely possessive feeling roared to life inside me. The need to touch and claim her was so extreme that I struggled not to drop my mic and go right to her.
I was known for being a dynamic and unflappable interviewer, yet for the first time in my career, I fumbled for words and struggled for coherence. This was due to the fact that the only thing I cared about was her. Only when I realized that my segment producer had been frantically waving at me from his spot next to the stationary camera did I remember that I had a job to do.
Forcing myself into host mode, I somehow went about interviewing the group of people the girl in the green dress was walking with. I knew who each one of them was, but her name was a mystery because she stood off to the side, and it wasnât like I could call her over.
The rules on the red carpet were simple and definitive. Talk to the talent and keep it moving. Assistants, friends, and family members didnât get a lot of play, even if they were as sexy as the goddess in the green dress. It frustrated me not to know her name, but I comforted myself with the knowledge that it would only be a matter of time before I solved that mystery.
After I wrapped up my pre-show hosting duties, something that took far longer than one would imagine, I headed into the Dolby Theatre. I was seated with one of my good friends, Liam Hall. He wasnât nominated but was presenting, so he was in a chill mood. Typically, weâd have shot the shit and pressed the flesh with the people around us, but I was so busy staring at the girl in the green dress that I didnât have it in me to do much more than phone it in. I was smart enough to train my eyes mostly on the stage when the cameras were rolling, but every time the host threw to commercial, my attention went right back to her. I hated that she was seated so damn far away in another section.
Oscar ceremonies were known for being ridiculously long and what was scheduled as a three-hour broadcast always went over. Sometimes by seventeen minutes, and sometimes by eighty. Iâd never hated the length more than I did then. I silently willed the damn show to come in on time for once, but naturally, that didnât happen. The fucking thing dragged on longer than War and Peace.
During one of the commercial breaks, Liam leaned over and muttered, âWhatâs the deal with the sexy chick in the green dress youâre busy eye-stalking?â
While it was true that I was ogling herâclearly not as covertly as Iâd hopedâhearing Liam refer to her as sexy set my teeth on edge. That I had any kind of reaction to his question was unusual. Iâd had a similar response when Iâd seen Dane Garrison take her arm earlier. The only thing that calmed me down about that was the certainty that Dane wasnât dating her. I knew this because Dane and I were tight. The only girls in his life on the regular were his mom, Gloria Garrison, and his daughter, Maggie. Thank fuck Iâd remembered that before I made a fool of myself by telling him to get his goddamn hands off the blonde. Iâd never felt territorial about anyone before, but there was no denying that I wantedâneededâher to be mine. That brought me back to Liam, who needed to know that the goddess in green was majorly off-limits.
âCall her sexy again, and weâre going to have a problem,â I grumbled, speaking low enough so only he could hear me.
Sitting back, Liam raised his brows and gave me an âare you seriousâ look. I dipped my head to acknowledge that yeah, I sure as fuck was. Unbothered by his obvious amusement about what was going on with me, I turned my attention back to the woman in green.

Mom rushes into the room, moving the man aside, her face coming so close, my eyes losing focus. I want to look at her. Want to beg her to make him leave. Want to yell and scream and claw my way out of this bed to get away.
âLily! Lily! Itâs Mommy. Iâm here, sweetie. Iâm here.â Her hand goes to mine, clasping it like she has a million times before.
This time, I squeeze. I will it. I close my eyes and send the full force of the universeâs sense of mercy into one impulse, one set of muscle fibers, one aching, desperate movement.
âTOM!â Mom gasps. âShe squeezed my hand! Lily, did you squeeze my hand on purpose? Do it once for yes, twice for no!â
I squeeze once.
âOh, Lord, thank you!â Mom babbles, tears rolling down her face, splattering on my cheek, stinging where the tape pulls my skin. âSqueeze twice if you want to see Daddy!â
Squeeze squeeze.
âSheâs awake ! Sheâs coming out of it! My Lily is waking up!â Mom shouts. âWe have to tell everyone! We have to keep her awake. Tom! Doctor! Help!â
I look behind her. A crew of white lab coats has appeared, jabbering. And next to them, the man in dark clothes. I know I can squeeze.

Ella Fox
USA Today Bestselling Author Ella Fox has learned a bunch of stuff along the way but the most important of all those things is that anything is possible when you try. In 2012 she took a big leap of faith and published her first book, Broken Hart. Since then sheâs written fifteen more full-length books and several novellasâ and every one is a reminder that you can live your dream as long as you work for it.
Ellaâs favorite things are music, movies, traveling, The Foo Fighters and, of course, reading. This isnât a surprise considering the fact that her mom is USA Today Bestselling Author Suzanne Halliday.
Rochelle Paige
Rochelle Paige absolutely adores readingâalways has and always will. When she was growing up, her friends used to tease her when she would trail after them, trying to read and walk at the same time. If she has downtime, odds are you will find her reading or writing.
She is the mother of two wonderful sons who have inspired her to chase her dream of being an author. She wants them to learn from her that you can live your dream as long as you are willing to work for it.
When she told her mom that her new year's resolution was to self-publish a book in 2013, she pretty much told her, "About time!"
